Fostering Values-driven Life Exploration Education Through Cross-sector Collaboration

In a world that is increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA), supporting young people to explore their inner desires and potential is essential for navigating change. This journey of resilience and courage equips them to face emerging challenges with confidence and clarity.

In 2020, The D. H. Chen Foundation, in collaboration with Ednovators as Strategic Partner, launched Future Education in Action (FeiA) to co-create an integrated curriculum that nurtured future-ready students with compassionate values, essential future skills and competencies. Partnering with Lok Sin Tong Yu Kan Hing Secondary School and HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, the programme offered diverse learning experiences and authentic opportunities through joint-school and customised workshops and training. Teachers benefitted from capacity-building initiatives that sparked innovation, while multiple stakeholders worked together to expand the focus from traditional Life Planning Education to a more holistic Life Exploration Education. A full report on the programme’s impact and key learnings is available here.

Building on this foundation, both organisations introduced FEiA 2.0 in 2025 with the aim of establishing a more comprehensive ecosystem for young people’s life and career exploration. This next phase fosters a Community of Practice (CoP) that brings together teachers, social workers, and business professionals committed to values-driven life and career exploration – including partners such as The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Young Women’s Christian Association (social workers); Nan Fung Group (corporate representatives); and Carmel Secondary School and HKSKH Bishop Hall Secondary School (in addition to the two schools from FEiA 1.0).

Over an 18-month co-creation journey, CoP members will gain insights and develop innovative ideas through workshops and a learning trip, and contribute their resources – such as collective wisdom and networks – to support ideation and prototyping. They will also take part in community-building sessions to share experiences and reflect together, alongside individualised coaching during the implementation phase.

This model not only connects different professionals, but also aligns their perspectives and deepens mutual understanding, creating a collaborative environment where innovative ideas can flourish. The Foundation aspires to establish a collaborative model for values-driven life and career exploration that can be shared and replicated, connecting and inspiring more like-minded partners to embrace and practise cross-sector development.
