At The D. H. Chen Foundation (the “Foundation”), we believe that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental human right. Despite significant effort in promotion of public health over the past decades, there is still much work to be done to ensure that all individuals have the opportunity to live healthy, fulfilling lives. In particular, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the deep vulnerabilities in our healthcare systems and underscores the urgent need for comprehensive, coordinated efforts to address these challenges.
Recognizing the value of “Universal Health” and the implications it would bring to improving people’s health literacy, the Foundation supported the establishment of “The D. H. Chen School of Universal Health (陳廷驊大健康學院)” at the Zhejiang University (“ZJU”) in Mainland China in 2020. This School aims to lead future health development in a comprehensive way through cultivating top-notch health professionals with global vision, social responsibility, and the ability to solve global health problems riding on research and technology.
Leveraging ZJU’s multidisciplinary strengths, the School offers a new post-graduate program that serves as a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in healthcare, bringing together experts from various fields that work towards untangling complex health issues. This program empowers a new generation of health leaders who understand the social, economic, and environmental factors that shape health outcomes, and who are also committed to working collaboratively to develop sustainable, equitable healthcare systems that benefit all people.
By investing in the next generation of health professionals and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration, the Foundation is confident that we can make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of communities around the world.
The D. H. Chen Tower is being built for accommodating the future need of the School’s teaching and research. Please visit HERE for more details of the School.
