In Hong Kong, people face significant challenges at different life stages, especially during retirement, when they may experience isolation due to declining health and a shrinking support network. Family caregivers often deal with stress while balancing personal responsibilities, and helping professionals frequently face burnout from emotional demands. Although mindfulness is recognised as a valuable tool for coping with these issues, many are unaware of its benefits, and barriers like time constraints and crowded living conditions hinder the adoption of consistent mindfulness practices.
Building on the experience of the Co-Creating a Loving World, a community mindfulness project introduced by The D. H. Chen Foundation from 2022 to 2023, the Foundation co-initiated D’ Well in partnership with The Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council in March 2025. This programme aims to make mindfulness practices more approachable and applicable in daily life.
Rooted in a dedicated space at D’ Hub in Prince Edward, D’ Well offers a tranquil environment for individuals aged over 50 and caregivers to pause and reconnect with themselves. The programme also includes capacity-building initiatives to nurture a community of ambassadors and promote a culture of self-care and mindfulness in two social care service units.
From drop-in sessions and one-off thematic workshops to structured courses and emotional support services, D’ Well provides a continuous pathway tailored to diverse needs and lifestyles. It also serves as a collaborative platform, connecting a growing network of like-minded facilitators, ambassadors, helping professionals, and community partners to deepen their mindfulness practices.
The Foundation believes that mindfulness is a path to living well in the present moment by fostering awareness, deepening connections, and strengthening our ability to care for ourselves and others with compassion. Through this initiative, the Foundation hopes to make the practice of “dwelling well” in the present moment more accessible and relatable for all, bringing us one step closer to building a compassionate society.
