Fostering 21st Century Global Leadership through a Prestigious Postgraduate Program

Driven by our Founder Dr. Din-hwa Chen’s vision of bringing positive transformation to the world through quality education, the Foundation has invested in several impactful educational initiatives in recent years. Of all these initiatives, The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholarship (the “Scholarship Program”) and PolyU 80th Anniversary‧The D. H. Chen Foundation Nobel Laureate Lecture Series have been favorably received for building significant platforms to connect and empower brilliant minds who are committed to advancing knowledge, innovation and social good globally. Endeavoring to advance our efforts along this path, the Foundation will support the prestigious Schwarzman Scholars Program to bring the most promising future leaders together to understand and study the economic, political and cultural factors that have contributed to China’s rise to its influential global status today.

A highly-selective, fully-funded one-year post-graduate program at Tsinghua University, Beijing, Schwarzman Scholars will serve as an extension of the Foundation’s landmark Scholarship Program which currently supports exceptional Hong Kong undergraduate students at the University of Oxford and four local leading universities namely the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the University of Hong Kong. The 15-year partnership will also see a total of 30 Hong Kong’s most outstanding young talents named as The D. H. Chen Foundation Fellow of the Schwarzman Scholars Program starting from the academic year 2018-19.

  • I couldn’t be more pleased than to have the generous support of The D. H. Chen Foundation. Dr. Chen was visionary in creating the Foundation, and its mission is so closely aligned with that of Schwarzman Scholars. I have no doubt that our collaboration will be successful. Our shared mission to identify young leaders from Hong Kong and to give them an unparalleled educational opportunity – one focused on China, leadership and global affairs – will help create a future of peace and prosperity. We are excited to begin our partnership and are grateful for the support and friendship of the Foundation.

Since its establishment, Schwarzman Scholars has already gained global recognition and critical support and endorsement from numerous internationally-renowned business, political and cultural leaders, who all contribute to the high-level academic exchanges and exclusive professional development opportunities offered by the program. Riding on this, the Foundation envisions that the partnership with Schwarzman Scholars will lead to substantial enrichment opportunities for The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholars, enabling them to be connected to generations of leaders who will leverage broad knowledge and valuable insights gained to spearhead meaningful synergies among individuals, communities and nations.
