Preparing for Life’s Profound Moments through In-depth Understanding and Practice

Since the emergence of COVID-19, a surge in the need for life-and-death education has been observed worldwide. In Hong Kong, The D. H. Chen Foundation collaborated with The Centre for Spiritual Progress to Great Awakening (“The Centre”) to bring forth an innovative life-and-death education program, titled “《回眸》共學先導計劃 — 從紀錄片中學習生命的陪伴”.

Spanning from October 2023 to May 2024, the program centers around a thought-provoking Taiwanese documentary Review (回眸; 2021) directed by Maso Chen. With the aim to invite open, honest and profound conversations on life and death, the program is structured with two core components, namely Documentary Screening and Sharing, and 細讀《回眸》In-Depth Analysis Workshops in which the participants would delve into approximately 20 selected segments of the documentary in order to explore the comprehensive physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of individuals near the end of life.

  • Ven. Chuan Deng, Abbess of The Centre for Spiritual Progress to Great Awakening and In-charge of the Buddhist Chaplaincy Unit of the Centre, leading the workshop which focused on spiritual reflection and interaction

  • Healthcare and social welfare workers actively participating in the workshop's sharing session

Review was debuted in Hong Kong in 2022 through the efforts of the Centre who has been pioneering life and death education for years in the territory. The screening and its subsequent guided workshops have been well-received among such professionals as healthcare and social welfare workers, and academia. Recognizing the impact and significance of this initiative, the Foundation is committed to supporting the Centre to further raise awareness to a wider audience.
