Official Launch of Youth ImpACT Award (“YIAA”)

More than 200 school principals, teachers, secondary school students, government officials, NGO representatives and social innovators gathered to celebrate the official launch of Youth ImpACT Award (感創敢為: 青年社會創新服務獎) on October 7, 2016 at Yasumoto International Academic Park, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Mr. Alan Chow, Executive Director of the Foundation and Ms. Lilian Law, Executive Director of The Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong took turn to welcome the audience and gave their Opening Remarks to kick off the event. Mr. Lau Ming Wai, Chairman of the Commission on Youth and Mr. Francis Ngai, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Social Ventures Hong Kong, then shared their insight on youth as active contributors to the community and innovation as a major force to solve social problems respectively.

Four students from Tuen Mun Catholic Secondary School who visited a cubicle apartment as part of YIAA’s training were also invited to share their experience at a chit-chat session with Mr. Ngai. After witnessing the poor living conditions of an elderly and being inspired from him how innovation could be applied to the smallest detail to make a difference, the students expressed that they were now very motivated and eager to turn their empathy into actions.

YIAA believes in the creativity of our younger generation to drive positive change and we encourage more students to take the opportunity and put their talents to good use. YIAA is now open for registration. For details, please visit the official website.
